Journalists risk their lives in Myanmar. The military government which overthrew the elected government in 2021, has been persecuting, threatening, and arresting media workers ever since to crack down on any opposition resistance.
One example of this is the story of Ko Aung Kyaw. The reporter from the independent news organization Democratic Voice of Burma was arrested by the military in a night raid at his home on March 1, 2021. He streamed live from his balcony as armed forces entered his house and shot at him. Aung Kyaw served an eight-month prison sentence in the Myeik prison and fled the country. Ko Aung Kyaw’s story is out now!
